Editor’s note: The Epoch Times publishes here direct translations of statements made by Chinese people who renounced the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and its subordinate organizations. Statements such as these are submitted to a website affiliate of the Chinese version of The Epoch Times, Dajiyuan. The movement to renounce, withdraw from, or quit the CCP, called “Tuidang” in Chinese, began in late 2004, soon after The Epoch Times published the “Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party,” an editorial series that explores the nature and history of the CCP. The statements offer a rare and candid glimpse of history in the making. Chinese people are turning their backs on the Communist Party, choosing conscience over convenience, and peacefully ushering in a future China, free of Party rule.
The following is a selection of edited quitting statements by Chinese nationals on Oct. 5–7.

I Experienced the Great Famine

When I was young I experienced the Great Famine. [The Great Famine, also known as the Great Leap Forward, killed an estimated 30 million Chinese between 1958 -1961; Ed. note.] On the worst days, we would drag eight or nine bodies of villagers who had died from hunger that morning. Then we went to work in the fields. Authorities kept people from stealing and eating sweet potatoes and other foods. At the end of the day our pockets were checked to see if we had any leftover food on us. The evil party treated us worse than animals. Now, I have heard about the three withdrawals, and I want to hereby quit from the evil CCP’s Young Pioneers and erase the mark of the evil party.
