NEW YORK—Over the holiday season, long-distance trips in the nation usually increase 93 percent over the daily average, according the NYU Rudin Center for Transportation Policy & Management. Most travelers, 9 out of 10, travel by car. AAA expects this year’s holiday period to bring the highest traffic volume in 10 years.

The Rudin Center highlighted the 10 worst bottlenecks it expects in a report released Monday. The delays range from 5 to 24 minutes, in most cases doubling travel time. Commuters will encounter high traffic volume on most routes from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., but the worst time period on the Hutchinson Parkway and the Pulaski Skyway will be 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
