Robert Griffin III, known as RG3, is alienating some of his Washington Redskins teammates, according to a new report.
The Redskins traded three first-round picks and a second-round pick for RG3, but he has yet to lead the team to the playoffs.
“The word out of Washington, and I’ve talked to people around the league, coaches and players, is that RG3 is not very well-liked in that locker room,” said Matt Miller of Bleacher Report.
“We’ve heard things like this before, namely directed to the other quarterbacks in that locker room--the feeling is that he’s tarting to alienate some of his teammates on the offensive side of the ball, and I think a lot of that stems from his struggles to learn the new playbook, Jay Gruden’s system, and I don’t think that’s breaking news, we’ve RG3 struggle before, especially year 2 under Mike Shanahan--we’ve heard reports out of Washington this year that he’s struggling to adapt to this new system, but I think it’s all coming to a head, to a boiling point.
“His frustrations are spilling over into the locker room, and happy feelings are kind of dying in Washington right now.”
Miller was asked how the teammates feel about backup Kirk Cousins, who came in for a couple games last year when Griffin was hurt.
“People love Kirk Cousins, and that’s natural, the backup quarterback is always the most-loved guy in town. But I think Cousins has handled the locker room, the talk of the quarterback controversy, with a little more professionalism,” he said.
“I can tell you for sure that when the New England Patriots came out and said that Kirk Cousins was the better quarterback in the scrimmage, that locker room went crazy, and I think RG3 kind of feels like Cousins is starting to close the gap in the competition, even if Daniel Snyder will never let that be truly an open quarterback battle.”
As for who should be the starting quarterback, Miller believes it should still be Griffin.
“From what I’ve seen, I think RG3 does give the edge,” he said. “You can’t match his athleticism, it’s just getting him dialed in and getting him confident.”
