The Quebec Liberals have elected former health minister Philippe Couillard as their new leader.
On Sunday at the Verdun Auditorium in Montreal, over 2300 delegates cast their vote to elect Couillard as the leader of the Quebec Liberal Party with 58.5 percent of the vote.
Couillard won the election against former transport minister Pierre Moreaus and former minister of finance Raymond Bachand on the first ballot.
Couillard, who served as minister of health in the Jean Charest cabinet between 2003 to 2008, had retired from politics but returned for the leadership race.
He currently doesn’t hold a seat in the Quebec National Assembly.
