Four people were arrested Friday in New York City for their suspected role in a “knockout game” attack on a Jewish man in Brooklyn.
The attack happened early Friday morning around 2:45 a.m. in Borough Park and is being investigated as a possible hate crime.
The man was heading home from work when he was surrounded by a group of Hispanic males. He was punched in the face.
The victim told police that one of the attackers said “I'll do it to this guy” right before he was attacked, reported CBS.
The suspects, three Hispanic men and one Indian man ranging from 28 to 38 years of age, fled but were soon arrested by police. They are being interviewed and face assault charges, which may be upgraded.
Councilman David Greenfield said that the string of attacks on Jewish people that appear to be part of the game are anti-Semitic and are not a game.
“The message we want to send is very clear, it’s not funny , it’s not a game,” Greenfield said. “Knockout is a serious attack, it’s not a game. If you keep doing it you will get caught and you will get sent to prison for a very long time.”
The NYPD has heightened its presence in Brooklyn after the attacks and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly urged anyone victimized to come forward to police.
