What is known so far about the Nexus 6?
When Google announced that it was working on a new Android Silver line of high end smart mobile devices, some presumed that it meant the end of the Nexus line.
Google has since denied this, but did not announce any upcoming Nexus devices that will replace the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7.
In June, rumors surfaced that LG will be making a 5.5-inch Nexus phone, making it similar in size to the LG G3. The phone, dubbed the Nexus 6, will supposedly replace the Nexus 5.
Recently, however, rumors have it that Motorola are going to be the ones working together with Google to produce the Nexus 6.
Codenamed “Shamu,” the project came about after Lenovo agreed to buy Motorola in January 2014, which led to Google’s Android unit working together with Motorola for the new phone.
“Shamu” is the name of a killer whale, and is in line with the “sea animal” code names that Google dubs its Nexus line. For instance, the Nexus 5 was code named “Hammerhead.”
The Google-Motorola Nexus 6 will have a 5.9-inch screen, and could pack a fingerprint sensor.
This phone is also allegedly slated for a November release.
The rumored timing of the Nexus 6 release puts it right in line with the launch of the Android L, Google’s upcoming mobile OS.
Motorola has confirmed that the Moto X at least will get Android L support, which bodes well for the rumors that Google and Motorola are working together on the Nexus 6.
