Mary Elizabeth Winstead was the first of many victims of the massive hack to acknowledge that the naked pictures circulating online were, in fact, of her, drawing support from some and ire from others.
The pictures began circulating widely on Sunday, with multiple celebrities denying that the photos allegedly of them were real, including Victoria Justice.
But Winstead took to Twitter to say that the pictures of her were real.
“Knowing those photos were deleted long ago, I can only imagine the creepy effort that went into this. Feeling for everyone who got hacked,” she said.
“To those of you looking at photos I took with my husband years ago in the privacy of our home, hope you feel great about yourselves,” she added, taking aim at those viewing the pictures.
The pictures and some videos hit the Internet after some specific targeting of people by hackers, Apple said after an investigation. The company denied that its iCloud storage had any issues that enabled hacking.
The FBI and other law enforcement agencies are trying to find the people behind the hack.
Winstead later told Twitter followers more about her thoughts on the issue, retweeting another tweet that said: “You know what’s better then leaked nudes? Earning the trust & respect of another human to the point that they share their body with you.”
She also said that she was blocking a lot of users who were giving her negative feedback and then announced that she was going on “an Internet break.”
“Feel free to my @’s for a glimpse of what it’s like to be a woman who speaks up about anything on twitter,” she said.
Winstead, 29, is an actress with 40 credits to her name, according to IMDB. Her roles have included parts in The Thing, Final Destination 3, and Live Free or Die Hard.
