Filmmaker and DIY wizard Dave Pagan Butler is spearheading a new trend in ecological swimming pools.

Natural pools consist of combining two equal zones: a shallow pond and all the wildlife that goes with it, and a deep pool for bathing in clean and clear waters.

No chemical pesticides are added to the water to keep it clean, making the water both human and creature friendly.

The plants and wildlife in the surrounding shallow zone purify the water. They maintain the health of the water by oxigenating, filtering, and removing the nutrients that allow algae to grow.

Dave Pagan Butler has created a set of DVD’s and manuals where he shows you how to build your own organic pool—either as a DIY project or with the help of professionals. And it does not require you to hire any specialist electricians or plumbing contractors.

Dave also shares fantastic DIY tips, such as how to insulate the swimming zone to help preserve the heat from the sun, or how to make a DIY silent pool filter from scrap and domestic plumbing, and how to build a solar powered animal-friendly circulation system.

These swimming ponds are cheaper to build and maintain than commercial installations. They are run by solar power and require no purchase of chemicals to keep the pool clean.

Dave hopes to inspire others to build their own natural pools so that more people could bathe in chemical free waters to the sound of birds, dragonflies, frogs, and happy humans.
