Law & Order SVU season 15 is winding down and there’s a possibility that the show won’t be renewed.

With just four episodes left this season, NBC hasn’t made an renewal announcement, sparking rumors from some industry watchers and fans.

The possible renewal is being complicated by financial issues, such as producer Dick Wolf not wanting to take a pay cut, reported Deadline.

The spinoff is the only one still on the air, out of five made overall. Wolf’s side says that SVU is having one of the strongest seasons in years.

But NBC’s side is saying that the viewing figures are still nowhere near where they used to be, prompting a request for a cost reduction.

Fans have been wondering about the renewal for months, using the #RenewSVU hashtag on Twitter to urge for another season.

Showrunner Warren Leight told TVGuide that the cast and crew want to come back for another season.

The show “has done well in our impossible time slot [Wednesday, 9/8c],” he said.

He also slammed the Deadline article, saying that whether Wolf will take a pay cut or not doesn’t have anything to do with a renewal.

He also said that the season finale won’t be written as if it will be the series finale.

“We’re still writing the finale. We always cut things pretty close by the end of the season, but I would say, all the other stuff is distracting. There won’t be a cliffhanger like last year’s when Olivia had a gun at her head. But there will be some unresolved questions that will jump you into the next season. I don’t want to bet against the show.”

The finale will air on May 21.
