Jules Weiss, a Maryland woman who suffered a snake bite, was billed $55,000 for hospital treatment, according to reports.
Weiss was bitten by a copperhead snake--a type of venomous snake endemic to North America--when she was walking out to her car, reported KSHB-TV.
Her foot began to swell and turned blue.
“It felt like a bad bee sting,” Weiss told NBC Washington. “I got to my car, turned on the light and there were two fang marks with liquid coming out.”
As a result, she was forced to seek medical treatment.
Weiss, who does not have medical insurance, would be billed $55,000. “I kind of went numb... I don’t know if there’s a way to process that,” she told NBC.
“I guess they do have some flexibility with it, but I will be looking into getting financial assistance,” Weiss told KHSB.
The hospital said that the anti-venom is the most expensive aspect of the treatment, costing $40,000 to stock it.
