Joshua Broussard was the teen who died when a conflict broke out in the cafeteria at Spring High School in Harris County, Texas, Wednesday morning.
The teen’s father and aunt confirmed his death to Local 2 News.
Alisa Broussard, his aunt, said the teen was into rodeo and roping. On his Facebook page, he goes by the name Joshua Teamroper Broussard. He posted a rodeo picture on his profile.
Jason Broussard, his father, said: “He was just trying to be in school today. I guess somebody must have come in pretty angry ... and took it out on other kids.”
Student Janeth Rincon had earlier tweeted “I just need a confirmation if Josh died or not.” Frank Sanchez tweeted “Whether you were friends with him or not, hurts man.”
Broussard’s friends mourned their loss through social media, some noting how strict the teen’s mother was and how she tried to protect him from harm.
Another teen, 16, was seriously injured, and two others suffered minor wounds.
Deavean Bazile was the 16-year-old who was seriously injured. He underwent surgery, but is expected to recover.
Classes at the school have been canceled until Monday.
