Have PanGu’s latest jailbreak, but want to remove it?

Jailbreaking is a hack that allows Apple users to install unapproved (i.e. not found on the Apple Store) iPhone apps. These apps will be downloaded via Cydia, the “app store” for jailbroken iPhones.

Although jailbreaking is technically legal in some countries, including the United States at present, Apple can void the warranty of a jailbroken phone.

Apple is against jailbreaking, and has made their mobile OS harder and harder to hack with each patch.

However, given the demand of iPhone users in having more room to customize their iPhones with more varied “unofficial” Cydia apps, hackers persist in picking their way through the iOS when the latest version is released.

The popular jailbreak team Evad3rs has failed to come up with a working jailbreak since iOS 7.1.0.8.

Currently the only hackers who have a working jailbreak for Apple’s latest iOS 7.1.2 and iOS 7.1.1 is the Chinese team PanGu.

Not much is known about them, although members Hao (windknown)XiaBo Chen (dm557)Daniel Manoppo (Daniel_K4) have been identified.

In an earlier version of PanGu’s untethered jailbreak, installing the software would automatically add the “PPSync” 25PP app to the user’s iPhone.

Although PanGu gives users the option to not install the app and instructions on how to remove the app if installed accidentally by the user, there might be users who have become uncomfortable with a jailbroken phone, and wish to remove the PanGu jailbreak.

Here are some easy steps to remove the PanGu untethered jailbreak.

1) Install the latest version of iTunes on your PC or Mac.

2) Download the latest iOS firmware.

3) Backup you iPhone via the iDevice’s panel on iTunes.

4) On the iDevices panel, click on the “Restore iPhone” button, and then select the IPSW file of the iOS firmware that you have just downloaded.

5) Click on “Restore iPhone” again and iTunes will prompt you to verify this. Click “Restore,” and after rebooting, your iPhone should be rid of the Cydia app and the jailbreak.
