An iPhone death was reported after 23-year-old Chinese flight attendant Ma Ailun was reportedly electrocuted by the smartphone.

Apple said Monday it would investigate the incident, according to the Reuters news agency.

The woman was shocked to death when she answered her iPhone 5 as it was plugged into a charger.

“We will fully investigate and cooperate with authorities in this matter,” Apple told the news agency.

The incident was first reported when Ma’s sister said on the Sina Weibo microblogging service that the flight attendant was shocked with a “strong electronic current,” according to a translation provided by tech website ZDNet.

The family said the phone was purchased through official channels in December of last year, meaning it was within the phone’s one-year warranty.

Chinese officials said they are currently investigating the case. They said the woman died from electrocution.

ZDNet said the woman was slated to get married next month.
