Husky Looks Like a Skeleton, but 10 Months Later, She’s Unrecognizable

A man documented his efforts to rehabilitated a skeletal husky over a several-month span.

The husky, Hope, was found on the streets of Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia, according to website Bored Panda.

Rico Soegiarto, the dog’s caretaker, said the dog was riddled with sores and very malnourished when he discovered her.

“I don’t know what was special about her,” Rico, 26, told the website. “Its about heart and feeling. I found her when I was on the way back home from work, she was in the middle of the street.”

Rico groomed Hope, took the dog to the vet, and nursed it back to health over 10 months.

“She loves getting petted and eats plenty of cookies!” Rico told the site. “And she is so sociable that she worries me sometimes. There are many thieves in Bali.”

On social media, he documented the process.

Commenters praised Rico for his rescue efforts.

“Wow.... what a hero this young man is and what a gorgeous dog.... she is beautiful,” one person wrote.

Added another: “This guy in Bali and any others on this page are divine people. I don’t see how animals children and homeless people can be left in dire circumstances and no one says or does anything. This poor dog cannot ask or seek out help though it should not be necessary as it is obvious he needs assistance.”

A third added: “If there were only more people like you!”

Dogs Rescued from Chinese Slaughterhouse

According to Humane Society International (HSI), a group of activists rescued about 62 dogs from a slaughterhouse in Yulin, China, on the eve of the infamous Yulin Dog Meat Festival in June.

One activist told People magazine about the conditions: “It was swelteringly hot inside the slaughterhouse when we got there, the dogs were exhausted and panting, some pressing themselves tight against the wall in an effort not to be noticed. Others chased around our legs eager for attention. We noticed straight away that some of them were wearing pet collars so they were probably stolen, and some of them looked very sick so we quickly loaded them on the truck to get them to our temporary shelter quickly to receive emergency veterinary treatment.”

“The slaughter man told us that these dogs were likely one of the last truckloads of dogs entering Yulin before the festival because the local government was likely to stop further trucks from entering the city, but we didn’t stick around to verify that,” they added.

They rescued the dogs to raise awareness about the Chinese dog meat trade and dog meat festivals.

“We want the world to see the horrors of China’s dog meat trade of which Yulin is typical, and for dog lovers everywhere to stand up against this terrible cruelty,” the group said, People reported.
