The HuffPost comment system has sparked widespread ire as numerous users have accused the media company of censorship, lying, and being out of touch.
As scores of users, according to current and former users, are leaving the site, there remains a loophold for the new verification system.
People don’t have to sign in through a verified Facebook account for the mobile apps. They can use their existing accounts for the apps.
But that loophole will soon be closed when the apps are updated next week, HuffPost’s director of community Tim McDonald told Poynter.
Many people are angry over having to log in through Facebook, and especially over having to have a verified Facebook account, which means providing a phone number to Facebook.
Former users have commented on Epoch Times about the many problems with the new system, including alleged censorship and slow moderation, and how many people are leaving. One person on the blog post on Huffington Post explaining the new system described the website as “a desert” now, with the number of comments much less than they have been in the past.
There may be another way around the new verification. Stay here at Epoch Times and you can register with Disqus using anonymous usernames.
For HuffPost, you could always make a fake Facebook account, although you would need to figure out a phone number to authenticate the account at.
