The driver who dropped a dog off at a humane society in Maine after it closed has been identified.

The dog ultimately died after being struck by a car.

The driver hasn’t been identified by name or gender, but the Lewiston Police Department said in a statement that they have figured out who it was and sent the information to the District Attorney’s Office.

It is heartbreaking.
