MONTREAL—A doctor working with youth at a Montreal college, Christine Pelletier felt as though returning back to childhood after watching some of the scenes in Shen Yun Performing Arts last performance in the Place Des Arts Sunday afternoon.
“I think it is a deployment of freshness and Chinese innocence, it’s extremely beautiful. It’s really refreshing, it’s like a spring in the heart of winter,” said Dr. Pelletier.
“There are explosions of joy ... I found it really fabulous.”
“I think it takes us back to childhood,” Dr. Pelletier said of the humorous piece in the show’s line-up called Joyful Little Monks Her companion that night, Mr. Sylvain Labbé, also enjoyed the piece.
“It’s amazing to make a choreography by using [cleaning] as a subject. It’s very funny to see the boys do housework,” he said.
“I loved it!” said Dr. Pelletier. Mr. Labbe saw the show two years ago and thought Dr. Pelletier should see also Shen Yun. She was glad he did.
Dr. Pelletier said she had been to China but did not experience as culturally rich a performance there as she did that day in Montreal.
“I went to China, I saw a show, but here it’s really the pinnacle of what I saw as a live performance,” she said. “I find it has more dynamics, color, richness in costumes, variety in the show ... .” said Dr. Pelletier.
“It was more beautiful than what I saw.”
“It’s really adorable.”
Shen Yun seeks to revive 5,000 years of Chinese culture all but destroyed under communist rule. Dr. Pelletier noted that little is know in the West about the disappearance of classical Chinese culture, but that Shen Yun revives the traditions “beautifully” in a poetic way.
“That’s what touched me, even more than words” she said. Dr. Pelletier was also touched by the joy, innocence and grace of the show.
“I recommend it to everyone,” she said.

Shen Yun has three equally large companies touring the world with an all-new program each year. Each company has its own orchestra and vocal soloists. Shen Yun’s International Company continues on to Kitchener, Ontario.
