MONTREAL—Long time dancer Helene Denis, said she was impressed with the Shen Yun dancers during her visit at the Place des Arts in Montreal, where the show sold-out the biggest theatre hall of the complex.
“A lot of synchronization in the movements. The dancers were really [dancing] at the same time, all the arabesques, the jumps, all that was really interesting,” said Ms. Denis. She came with her parents Manon Laverdure and Silvain Brunet.
Ms. Denis who has been dancing since she was 3-years-old, now also teaches dance at the École Des Axées Danse.
“In the show, there [are] a lot of colors and I really like it for the costumes. The music was really good,” she Ms. Denis.
Shen Yun Performing Arts is a New York-based company that comprises of three equally large groups that tour the world simultaneously bringing the audience a glimpse of traditional Chinese culture, which the company has set as its goal to revive.
According to the company’s website, the values of traditional Chinese culture include grace, wisdom and virtues that span 5,000 years of Chinese civilization. Shen Yun uses classical Chinese stories, dynamic backdrops, a live orchestra and hand-made costumes to help revive the ancient culture.
Ms. Denis was inspired by the long sleeves in the dances which she said she would want to incorporate into her dancing as well.
“The show is very good, the dancers are very synchronized, and the colors are beautiful, the choreography too,” agreed Mrs. Laverdure.
Mr. Brunet was impressed with the music in the show, which made him want to dance as well. “Sometimes my feet wanted to start dancing, to do the same thing as them ... when you look that, you’re impressed about what you see,” he said.
Ms. Denis said she would definitely tell her students at the dance school to see the show.
