A Comet Ison photo challenge has been launched for astronomers and others interested in space.

The National Science Foundation is offering a $2,500 prize for first-place, and other prizes as well.

“Astronomers predict ISON will be one of the best comets in decades,” says the foundation. “To commemorate this grand sky event, head out this fall to capture your finest images of Comet ISON, and you could win cash prizes and have your photo featured in Astronomy magazine.”

The contest launched about two weeks ago and images must be submitted by January 15, 2014.
