A man jumped from the top of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, in Dubai on Tuesday in an apparent suicide attempt, according to local media reports.

Emaar Properties, the owner of the 2,700-foot-tall building, confirmed the reports, according to local media 7Days.

“The concerned authorities have confirmed that it was a suicide, and we are awaiting the final report,” reads a statement from the company.

Eyewitnesses say that the man fell from the 147th story of the building and landed on a deck on the 108th floor, reported 7Days. The man, whose name has not been released, is in his 20s.

According to the Gulf News, a local media agency, the man jumped after having a dispute with his employer.

The building, which has 160 stories and a towering spire, opened January 2010 and is indisputably the tallest on earth. It is also the world’s tallest freestanding structure.

The news stunned tourists seeking to ascend to the top of the skyscraper and prompted tour cancellations.
