Health authorities in Australia announced the country’s first cases of person-to-person transmission of COVID-19 on March 1.

New South Wales Health Minister Brad Hazzard said during a press conference that the first case is a 53-year-old health worker who initially was thought not to have the virus. However, a third test confirmed he does have COVID-19, and officials believe he may have contracted it through patients.
