In the Subaru Forester line, the 2.0XT Touring is the most refined and feature-laden trim.

The 2.0 L aluminum alloy turbocharged 4-cylinder horizontally-opposed Boxer engine with Dual Active Valve Control System delivers 250 hp at 5,600 rpm and 258 lb-ft of torque in the band of 2,000-4,800 rpm.

Don’t let the cylinder count deceive you. The high torque helps ensure peak mpg while keeping things fun behind the wheel. Whether it’s passing, merging, or simply speeding ahead, Forester gets it done quickly. The EPA-rated fuel economy is an average 25 mpg combined, 23 mpg in the city, and 28 mpg on the highway. My weekly drive averaged 30 mpg.

The windows and panoramic power moonroof allow for an excellent view to the outside. Privacy tinted glass for rear and cargo windows are standard.

The 7.0-inch infotainment system with navigation is the centerpiece of a refined interior. This multimedia system host voice activated GPS navigation, AM/FM/CD/MP3/WMA playback, Bluetooth, dual USB ports, Subaru’s StarLink smartphone integration, Aha radio, and SiriusXM Satellite Radio and Traffic. Whatever you choose to listen to, it comes through the splendid Harmon Kardon eight-speaker system powered by a 440-watt amplifier to create a desirable atmosphere in the cabin.

The 4.3-inch full-color Multi-Function Display just above the central air vents supplies critical data that includes vehicle dynamics monitor, clock, average fuel economy, and EyeSight Drive Assist system messages.

Automatic dual-zone climate control (with air filter), 10-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support, one-touch folding rear seats, leather-trimmed upholstery, and keyless access with push-button start work together for a comfortable and safe interior space. When the weather turns cold, the standard all-weather package with heated seats keeps your bottom toasty.

Power Rear Gate with height memory makes it easy to load and unload inventory for your adventure. Cargo volume is 34.4 cubic feet. Fold the rear seats down and that expands to 74.7 cubic feet.

The Forester is loaded with standard safety features—rear-vision camera and seven airbags for a start.

Standard AWD means you have control, even when terrain and weather are working against you. A brake override system and electronic brake force distribution ensures the vehicle will stop in a panic situation, before trouble finds you. Anti-theft alarm, immobilization system, and daytime running lights add to this safety package.

EyeSight Driver Assist system, as mentioned earlier, uses two cameras mounted on the sides of the rearview camera to implement advanced safety features, including Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Sway Warning, plus Pre-Collision Throttle Management System.

Manufacturer’s suggested retail price is $33,795 for the 2.0XT Touring, which sits at the top of the model lineup.

The turbocharged Forester gets you down the road quietly and quickly. There is a little road noise, but the seats are comfortable, plus sufficient ground clearance (8.7-inch) and responsive handling makes driving fun and productive. Blend the fun with comfort and economy and you will find you have a vehicle of “Good Choice.”
