An attempted home invasion by armed suspects was caught on camera in a Houston, Texas neighborhood—as the residents were still sleeping inside.
Surveillance footage shows three men running up to a home located in the Shady Acres neighborhood, at around 4:17 a.m. Thursday. The suspect leading the way can be seen carrying some type of assault rifle, while a second man behind him holds a pistol.
“I’m still thinking about it,” Riggs told ABC13. “Still shook up.”
One camera angle is from the top of Riggs’s front door, while the other is from his doorbell.
The thugs try two times to kick down the door but when it failed to budge, the three men turned around and fled the scene. The whole incident took place within a matter of seconds.
“We were asleep Dead asleep. Didn’t hear the door. Didn’t hear the budge,” Riggs told ABC13.
Riggs told the network that the thugs did not seem fazed by the vehicles in the driveway and that the lights were on.
Later in the afternoon, he saw the footprint on the front door and went to check his surveillance footage. He said he got the surprise of his life.
“It’s very scary to see somebody almost invade your privacy and hurt you. They’re not coming in to hold your hand and say, ‘Hey where’s all your stuff at?’ They were probably coming in to hurt us,” he told ABC13.
Reports did not say whether the three suspects had been apprehended.
Riggs said the reason why the door didn’t break down was because he installed a security bar usually called a “kick door stop” that he recently bought to keep his house safe.
