A moderate, 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck northern Argentina on Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. earthquake service said.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake hit around 28 miles north of San Antonio de los Cobres and 75 miles from San Salvador de Jujuy.

The quake struck at a depth of around 120 miles and was located near the border with Bolivia

Argentina is located on the “Ring of Fire” that encircles the Pacific Ocean.

The ring-- which stretches from the South Pacific and around East Asia before going to North and South America--is considered the most seismically active region in the world.
