A North Carolina husband truly thought “outside the box” for his wife’s birthday. He knew she just loved getting Amazon packages in the mail, and so he made sure his “package” to her was labeled accordingly.

Waylon “Mac” McGuire surprised his wife, Emily, with the birthday gift from “Amazon” on July 19, 2019. The package was not all as it seemed, however; the “cardboard” was made of icing sugar; the label, sugar and wafer paper; the entire box was a cake, custom-designed just for Emily.

And the impressive, and utterly hilarious, cake design has been garnering laughs, likes, and shares online thousands of times over.

The creative confection was crafted by Sweet Dreams Bakery in Dunn, North Carolina, and no details were left aside. The baker made Mac’s design specifications a reality with a personalized, edible shipping label and instantly recognizable “Amazon Prime” blue-and-black tape.

To add cuteness to creativity, Mac had even requested that the address label read “Emily McGuire, 1234 Birthday Lane, Happy Birthday, 2U.”

“I laughed so hard when I saw it,” McGuire told HuffPost. Emily, Mac, and their three children readily devoured the chocolate-flavored cake, but not before taking some trophy photos and sharing them online. Luckily, Emily is a photographer.
Pictures of her epic birthday cake win went viral after Emily posted them to her Facebook page. “You know you order from Amazon a little too much if your husband gets this cake,” she wrote beneath, and the hilarious post spread like wildfire.

Emily’s post was liked and shared tens of thousands of times. It was picked up by multiple media channels, and Emily was inundated with requests for interviews.

“I thought he was making fun of me,” Emily admitted in an interview with USA Today. “He always jokes about all my boxes from Amazon, but then he was like, ‘Here’s your cake!’”
The mom of three revealed that Amazon is her one-stop shop for anything and everything she needs. She receives Amazon mail as often as three times a week. “I just ordered a maxi dress and a watermelon slicer,” the mom told Today. “If I need something, I look on Amazon first.”

Mac, a military man, is stoic in the face of his wife’s hefty Amazon habit. On her birthday, Mac’s only ambition was to make his wife smile. But with his cake becoming an overnight viral sensation, he ended up achieving so much more.

Emily was so bowled over by the confectionary surprise and its response on the internet that she visited Sweet Dreams Bakery in person to meet the woman behind the baking.

Emily later posted a photo of herself with the cake creator captioned: “Had to go meet the lady that made my amazing Amazon cake. Thanks Trena! It was so nice to finally meet you!”

Trena’s most unbelievable feat, Emily shared, was that every single bite of the cake was edible. Even the address label was made of sugar and wafer paper. The clever creation, for all its attention to detail, took a whopping eight hours to perfect.

We can’t wait to see whether the McGuires’ next birthday cake can match the viral infamy of the edible Amazon package. But for now, Emily is sated by the knowledge that her husband knows her better than anyone.

“In that moment,” McGuire told CafeMom, “I knew my husband gets me.”
