District of Columbia Attorney General Karl Racine is opening an investigation into whether Republican governors are misleading illegal immigrants into transporting them to places like Washington.

According to a report by ProPublica and The Texas Tribune, Racine told the outlets that his investigators interviewed illegal aliens who “talked persuasively about being misled, with talk about promised services” by the trip organizers before boarding buses for Washington. Racine did not offer any further explanations or specifics about the nature of the inquiry.

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott recently revealed that over 11,000 illegal immigrants have been transported to New York, Chicago, and Washington offering “much-needed relief to overwhelmed border communities,” with the majority, over 8,000, going to Washington. And last week, Abbott dropped off immigrants near the Washington home of Vice President Kamala Harris.
While Republican governors maintain that policymakers in Democrat-run self-proclaimed “sanctuary cities” must bear the consequences of the immigration rules they support, Democrat administrators have denounced the move without blaming the Biden administration’s border policies. According to a report released in August, almost 5 million people have crossed into the country since Biden became president.

Following Abbott’s lead, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey transported 2,170 illegal immigrants to Washington on about 60 buses, according to Ducey’s spokesperson, C.J. Karamargin, reported The Texas Tribune.

In September, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser declared an emergency due to the surge of illegal immigrants, while Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker issued an emergency disaster order and deployed the National Guard.

Brianne Nadeau, a member of the Council of the District of Columbia, told reporters that while “the governors of Texas and Arizona have created this crisis,” the federal government “has not stepped up to assist the District of Columbia.”

NYPD Ticketing Buses Transporting Illegal Immigrants

New York City resources are under pressure from an overwhelming flow of more than 17,000 illegal immigrants, which prompted Mayor Eric Adams to declare a state of emergency.

According to a report from the New York Post, NYPD officers have begun flagging down buses that bring in illegal aliens from across the country into the state. The outlet claimed police were pulling over buses and searching them meticulously for possible infractions, including tire treads, logbooks, and even windshield wiper placement.

Some of the drivers were given court appearance tickets, in what looked like excuses to prevent them from coming back.

“I don’t care if the NYPD inspects us, we’ll keep making this trip because the money’s too good,” one of the drivers, who only gave the name Misael, said to the outlet, after receiving four pink court-appearance tickets, including one for a loose seat. “I’m with [Texas Gov.] Greg Abbott all the way. I don’t want migrants in my state. If [President Joe] Biden wants the borders open, the Democrat states can take them.”

NYPD Chief of Department Ken Corey said that the buses were stopped only after they dropped off the illegal immigrants, and “were inspected to ensure that they were in compliance with federal regulations.”

Adams said in a press briefing that “the New York City Police Department and whatever entity is being used, I’m hoping they are out there doing their job correctly, because we’re concerned about the safety of asylum seekers and the safety of New Yorkers.”

The influx of illegal immigrants into the city is expected to cost $1 billion by the end of the fiscal year, has strained the homeless shelter system, and forced officials to turn 42 hotels into emergency shelters.
