On Sunday morning around 7 a.m., a Honda Passport SUV carrying eight teenagers crashed into a pond in Warren, Ohio, about 60 miles east of Cleveland.

Brian Henry, 18, and Asher Lewis, 15, escaped from the vehicle and called 911, but the six others died: Alexis Cayson, 19; Andrique Bennett, 14; Brandon Murray, 17; and Kirklan Behner, Daylan Ray, and Ramone White, all 15 years old.

Mayor of Warren, Ohio, Doug Franklin, said at a press conference on Sunday aired by USA Today, “I spent most of my morning consoling and hugging and comforting anyone I could.”

Warren Schools Superintendent Michael Notar said at the press conference, “We’ve gone through some tragedies as a city and we’ve pulled together.”

He said counselors would be available for staff and students on Monday.

The teens did not have permission to use the vehicle. The owner had not reported it stolen, but police told NBC it is still unclear what the connection is between the owner and the teens.
