The winner has not yet come forward. “Most people take their time, seek professional advice, and wait to know exactly what they’re doing before they come in,” Hedinger said at a televised press conference on March 25.

Powerball tickets expire within 90 days to one year, depending on the state. In N.J., the winning tickets expire within one year.

The numbers drawn were 17, 29, 31, 52, 53 and Powerball 31. A portion of the money would go to federal and state taxes: 25 percent federal and three percent state. The after tax total would be roughly $152 million, according to Hedinger.

The owner of the store where the winning ticket was sold also gets money: $10,000.

Whoever has the $338 million winning lottery ticket “should sign the back of the ticket immediately and put it in a safe place,” Hedinger said. “I do hope they come forward very soon.”

The odds of hitting a Powerball jackpot are 1 in 195,249,054, according to the N.J. lottery website.
