Just when you think you’ve seen everything a talent show has to offer, the “Got Talent” franchise delivers a magic show way out of left field.

Before judges Kelly Osbourne, Ian Dickson, Sophie Monk, and Eddie Perfect even caught a glimpse of one act, a backstage hand rushed out onstage, to everyone’s confusion, ran over to Judge Eddie Perfect, reached down for his foot, oddly enough, popped off one of his sneakers, ran off, and placed it on a pedestal onstage.

The audience was about to be treated to a bizarre and funny magic show that ends with a bang.

Next, three smartly dressed young guys stride out onto the “Australia’s Got Talent” stage and present themselves before the judges. They couldn’t talk however, as, strangely enough, each of them had a strip of red tape covering their mouths.

There they stood, onstage, with Eddie’s lone black sneaker in front of them, apparently to be used as a prop. “Obviously, it’s not a great time to talk to you,” Eddie greeted, acknowledging their taped mouths, and the three contestants answered with shaking heads.

So, Eddie simply invited them to begin. “Please do whatever you’re going to do to my shoe, and do it quickly,” he said.

As soon as the trio took hold of Eddie’s sneaker, it became clear that, despite their silence, they were there to have fun. They begin pulling bizarre objects from the shoe, one thing at a time: first a rock, then two tennis balls, and lastly, a long baguette!

Then the real magic began!

They pulled out a neatly folded piece of paper from the shoe, with explicit instructions for Judge Eddie. They unfolded the paper and turned it over for him to read. “Eddie,” it read, “name a playing card.”

Already somewhat flabbergasted, Eddie mustered enough composure to come up with a card. “Ace of spades,” he managed.

The trio then feign having lost something, as they search pockets and sleeves, before having a lightbulb moment; they realized that the thing they were looking for was inside their taped-shut mouths. Carefully, they remove the red tape and retrieve a folded square piece of paper from their mouths. They unfold the papers and hold them up, one by one.

Can you see what’s coming? That’s right! Together, the paper words read “Ace” “of” “Spades.”

The awestruck panel of judges and audience offer an emphatic standing ovation, as the three magicians take a bow.

According to Australia’s Entertainment Bureau, the magical threesome, professionally known as “Gentlemen of Deceit,” made it to the grand finals of the show’s season.
Luke Hocking, Alex de la Rambelje, and Vyom Sharma started out as an insurance man, a teacher, and a doctor respectively, says their website. But they met, discovered a shared love of all things illusory, and the rest is history. “They take their magic very seriously,” their bio reads, “but not themselves.”

The trio have entertained audiences globally in theaters, at galas, at birthdays and Christmas parties, and as they joked, “many other places they weren’t invited.”
