This new Mazda CX-5 is powered by an NA or a turbocharged engine, depending on the model. The SKYACTIV-G 2.5 Turbo engine delivers 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque on premium 93 0ctane fuel. Using regular 87 octane drops the maximum output down to 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The power is distributed by a standard i-ACTIV AWD system, and stopping power is provided by ventilated disc brakes. I loved the paddle shifters!

The CX-5 Turbo fuel economy is estimated at 22 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, for a combined average of 25 mpg. I especially liked the Sport and Off-Road driving modes.

Mazda designers aimed for a fresh and attractive exterior for the new CX-5, and it starts with the front and rear ends. Minimizing character lines resulted in more reflective body surfaces, creating a more refined and elegant appearance.

The front fascia incorporates a new signature wings that extends outward from the front grille. The grille itself has replaced mesh surface with a three-dimensional texture.

The rear of the CX-5 also features a new bumper and tailgate complemented by the dual tailpipe. Headlights and taillights have received significant design changes. Each lamp features a pair of horizontally spaced, rectangular LED lights that create a sleek, eye catching expression.

My CX-5 was wearing Soul Red Crystal Metallic paint on the outside, which is a premium option costing an extra $595. Updates to the drive modes, seats, body, and suspension were also in the inventory list of the 2022 model year. These elements help make a more natural and comfortable drive experience. The CX-5 provides better stability and smoothness in acceleration and quicker responsiveness for the six speed automatic.

Improvement in controlling structure with dampening and increased frame rigidity helps suppress unpleasant vibration. Reduced road noise keeps the cabin quieter for a better quality driving experience.

Mazda CX-5 is a five-passenger SUV. The 2.5 Turbo comes with black or parchment leather seats with 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support and 2-position memory. The passenger seat and rear seats are all heated. The 40/20/40-split fold-down rear seat provides excellent passenger room and storage space arrangement.

Leather, heated, telescopic steering wheel with audio and cruise control complement the rear privacy glass and moonroof.

A 10.25-inch center display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, together with the multi-function commander dial provide easy access to the 10-speaker Bose audio system with AM/FM/HD Radio and SiriusXM Satellite Radio. The system is further expanded through Bluetooth hands-free phone and USB inputs.
