The Q50 comes with two engine choices. The 3.5 liter V6 with Infiniti Direct Response Hybrid System produces a combined 360 horsepower. It starts in all electric mode and transitions to full power hybrid mode. The suggested mpg is 36.
The other is the 3.7 liter DOHC 24 valve V6 engine which provided power for my test car. There were 328 testy horses measured at 7,000 rpm rearing to go, and 269 lb.-ft. torque at 5,200 rpm, escorted by a 7-speed automatic which has manual shift mode with downshift rev matching.
It had a rear-wheel drive powertrain riding on sport-tuned independent front and rear suspension. Average fuel economy was listed at a 23 mpg, but I got less than 20 mpg.
It was a delight to drive the Q50. You could tell it was designed for performance, at the same time featuring state-of-the-art technology and providing luxurious comfort for a rich rewarding experience. It had all the characteristics of a premium luxury sedan, but is priced at only $43,200, which makes it all the more enjoyable.
Ask yourself, what kind of feeling do I want in a luxury car? Take hold of the steering wheel (leather wrapped with illuminated controls) and slide into the comfortable seats (power lumbar support) with easily accessible technology (rearview monitor, Bluetooth hands-free, voice recognition for audio) the Q50’s air tight quietness positions you to feel the road with zero outside interference.
The available Direct Adaptive Steering System further isolates the driver from excessive road vibration coming through the steering wheel. The 19-inch aluminum sport wheels help thrust that message of peacefulness your way.

The cold weather finally broke in the south this week, leaving severe property damage in its wake. Damaged streets, bridges, pipes and rooftops will levy a heavy toll.
Interstate Highway 20 is one of the prime East-West routes through Dallas, Texas. A good part is elevated through the city, making it difficult to tread when icy rains and snow fall. At times it is dangerous beyond belief, but I managed quite nicely because of technologies found in most expensive cars.
The Q50 had such technology with its direct flow shock absorbers that adjust damping based on road conditions, as well as Active Trace Control that automatically adjusts braking and engine torque for enhanced cornering feel. Slowing my speed and paying attention, blended with Q50’s superb shock absorbers carried me safely over newly birthed chuck-holes and slick, icy potted, straight-a-ways.
Outside Q50 had a sporty front fascia. A chrome front grille and the “double-waved” hood enhances those good looks. A power sliding tinted glass moonroof, with one-touch auto open/close, allows for a connection to the outside sky.
Signature LED head lights complement the sculpted body, and the high beam assist technology automatically dims your high beams as oncoming traffic approaches. This is not a standard feature, but part of a $3,000 technology package that includes Lane Departure Warning and Prevention with Active Lane Control, Forward Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Warning and Intervention, and Predictive Forward Collision Warning.
The rear opens wide, making it easy to place large pieces of luggage in the trunk. The Q50’s wide stance helps maximize head and hip room. The backs of the supportive front seats give passengers more leg room. But in my estimate there is not adequate leg room in the rear if front seats are extended backwards to their fullest extent.
The Q50 S has eight exterior colors to choose from and four interior colors and two trims. My vehicle had beautiful Liquid Platinum Scratch Shield paint outside and Graphite Leather interior with a Kacchu Aluminum trim.
