When the owner of a puppy-breeding farm couldn’t afford the business anymore, they walked away without a care for the helpless dogs that were in their charge. Fifteen great Danes were abandoned and nearly died of starvation. Astonishingly, the pooches were not only rescued but have also been “adopted” by the King of Thailand.
What the volunteers found on Monday, Aug. 19, 2019, was nothing short of horrific. They first came across a man named Nui, who had been asked to look after the home by a relative of the dog breeder. Nui agreed to take part in the rescue. Upon entering the small house, they saw 15 great Danes in cages that were so malnourished that their bones were showing through their skin. They looked like skeletons. Sadly, one female great Dane and her two puppies had died there only a day before the volunteers’ arrival. However, Watchdog Thailand managed to save the 15 remaining pooches.
“We have received a Royal command from His Majesty The King. His Royal Highness has commanded a delegation to adopt the dogs at the Animal Welfare Division,” a spokesperson from Watchdog Thailand stated, per Daily Mail.
Veterinarian Kangwan Thirathamrong fed and gave the dogs medical attention before transferring them to Livestock Development’s Animal Center, where they are to continue their recovery.
“The owner claimed she didn’t hurt the dogs and still fed them but because she is unemployed and having financial problems they suffered,” Thirathamrong said, per Daily Mail. He explained that the dogs will need time to fully heal, both mentally and physically, from the trauma. And if the owner is not in a position to properly care for the pups, then they will “look for any dog lovers who are willing to look after them.”
The breeder who abandoned the poor dogs and nearly left them to starve to death is being investigated by the police as per the Cruelty Prevention and Welfare of Animal Act.
