A 1-year-old baby boy and his father were fatally shot in East Oakland on Wednesday morning, according to reports. The child was identified as Drew Jackson.
The Oakland Tribune reported that a gunman fired into the bedroom of a Brookfield Village home at 2:46 a.m., killing Jackson and his father. The father was aged 19 or 20 and was identified as Andrew Thomas of Fresno, according to ABC-7.
The baby was pronounced dead at the hospital and his father was pronounced dead on the scene, said police.
There have been no arrests made and the shooting is still under investigation.
“Any time a young child is killed, we’re all saddened by this,” police Sgt. Dom Arotzarena told the San Francisco Chronicle.
“Any time a person dies it’s sad, but a baby — it s unconscionable. It’s a sad situation, it’s terrible,” he told the Oakland Tribune.
Roger Buenrostro, a neighbor, said that he was woken up by several gunshots. “It was like, ‘bang bang bang bang bang,'” he said.
Police have not identified a motive in the shooting and say there might be more than one shooter.
