Dog saves girl: A 3-year-old Polish girl kept warm overnight amid freezing temperatures with the help of a dog.
A pet dog saved the life of a missing 3-year-old Polish girl who disappeared in freezing temperatures, authorities said over the weekend.
The child, named Julia, disappeared on Friday night in the small town of Pierzwin, located in western Poland, reported the BBC.
“For the whole night the animal was with the girl, it never left her. Remember, it was 5 degrees below zero and the child was wet,” Firefighter Grzegorz Szymanski told the broadcaster. In Fahrenheit, it means the temperature got to around 23 degrees.
The child was eventually found the next morning four kilometers (2.4 miles) from her home, with her dog next to her, according to TVNZ. She was taken to a hospital in Poland and is suffering from minor frostbite.
Rescuers said the dog slept next to her to keep her warm and barked when the rescuers came close. The girl’s family said that she is fond of the animal and does not stay far from it.
Around 200 people, including police officers, firefighters, rescue workers, and residents took part in the search for the child overnight, reported Sky News.
They believed that she spent several hours wandering near the forest next to the village, the BBC reported.
When firefighters rescued her, she was heard crying for her mother.
