Workers installing heating equipment in a Sacramento home found a hidden cache of gold dust in jars worth around $300,000.
Steve Ottley of Clarke and Rush, a heating and air conditioning company, told CBS 13 last week, “It’s unreal. We kind of just looked at each other and said ‘Wow.’”
Ottley and his crew found 12 baby-food jars filled to the top with gold dust in the floor grill of the home. The source of the gold is unknown.
“I looked at it and said, ‘I think that’s gold,’” said Ottley, who later handed over the jars to the homeowners.
“I’ve had similar incidents happened to me where jewelry and gold was taken from me,” he said.
Mark Thyne, also of Clarke and Rush, praised Ottley for not making off with the gold. “Every time we find this type of thing, we are always trustworthy and upfront,” Thyne told the station.
