Over 600 athletes competed in the season’s first run-bike-run race of the Hong Kong Triathlon Association 2013 Duathlon Series held at Chong San Road, Science Park, Shatin on Sunday Jan 13. Jeffrey Tang and Joyce Cheung were the respective title winners of Elite Open men’s and women’s categories.

The Elite Open course comprised a 3.2 km run, 20.3 km Bike and another 3.2 km run.

Jeffrey Tang took the lead in the bike section and was never headed. He crossed the finish line in 56 minutes 23 seconds (56:23).

National Squad member, Joyce Cheung won with the time 1:03:26.

Meanwhile, a new individual category in Hong Kong for athletes with a physical disability, the Paratriathlon, was introduced in this event. Samuel Ajmal and Shum Hang Fu won the inaugural races in Paratriathlon Tri 1 and Tri 4 categories respectively.

Race 2 in the 2013 Duathlon Series will be held on Feb 3 at Chong San Road, Science Park, Shatin with a 7 am start. To compete in the next event visit www.triathlon.com.hk for enrolment by Jan 24.
