Yankees outfielder Ichiro Suzuki was in a car accident Saturday evening in Tampa, Fla.

“He is fine,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman told the New York Post. “His interpreter called to let us know.”

He had just left Steinbrenner Field, the home field of the Tampa Yankees and spring training ground for the New York Yankees. His Landrover was cut off by a woman trying to make a left turn, and Suzuki’s car collided with another.

“He did nothing wrong,” Lt. Ronald McMullen told the New York Daily News. “The woman was given a citation for cutting him off.”

Bryan Hoch, writer for Major League Baseball (MLB.com) noted that, “The Yankees can ill afford another spring outfield injury after Curtis Granderson fractured his right forearm earlier in camp, sidelining the slugger until May.”

Yankees Minor League RHP Nick Goody sprained his ankle in a car accident on Friday.
