MONTREAL—Former Quebec assistant deputy minister (municipal affairs) and current president of Council of Administrative Justice Mr. Normand Bolduc drove three hours from Quebec City to catch Shen Yun Performing Arts’ last show in Montreal on Sunday.

The world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company was in the city for a limited, yet highly successful run from Jan. 3-6 at the city’s Place des Arts theatre.

“It’s splendid, it’s marvellous. It’s hard to find the right words to express all the feelings we have seeing [the show],” said Mr. Bolduc.

Alongside an active career in the Quebec government, Mr. Bolduc was the mayor of the city of Pointe-aux-Trembles from 1982 to 1986 and of the city of Neuville from 2000-2009. In 2010, he was recognized for his outstanding contribution to the cultural development of Neuville.

Shen Yun’s superior artistry, along with its representations of authentic Chinese culture and the positive values it conveys, have made it an audience favourite, impressing leaders in the artistic, business and political community, alongside millions of audience members.

After seeing Shen Yun, Mr. Bolduc felt he had gained a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture, saying that he now understands how beautiful the culture is.

“It’s marvellous this kind of culture. It’s really a rich culture. It really impressed me,” he said.

One aspect that stood out for him was the elegance of the ladies. “It’s fabulous,” Mr. Bolduc said.

Established in 2006 in New York, the company has set out to reclaim and renew China’s divinely inspired heritage. Through colourful performances of classical Chinese dance, leading bel canto soloists, a unique orchestra that combines Eastern and Western instruments, and a state-of-the art dynamic backdrop, Shen Yun has established itself as a premier artistic company on the world stage.
