SYDNEY—It was the sixth time that Human Rights campaigner for China, Mr. Bob Vinnicombe, has watched Shen Yun Performing Arts. He has not missed a single show.

Speaking after the opening night on Feb. 11, at Capitol Theatre in Sydney, Mr. Vinnicombe expressed his appreciation of New York-based Shen Yun.

“I enjoyed it very much. I’ve seen all the Shen Yun shows, and every year it gets better,” he said.

Mr. Vinnicombe is a former One Nation representative and now works as a campaigner for Human Rights in China, as well as running his own bookstore.

This weekend the Chinese community, as well as many other Australians, partook in the Chinese New Year celebrations. The celebrations are a meaningful time for Chinese people to remember their traditional cultural identity and traditional values—that began 5,000 years ago

Seeing Shen Yun is a wonderful way to celebrate the Chinese New Year because it shows the true nature of Chinese culture with all its elegance and propriety, through traditional art forms-music and dance.

Since the Cultural Revolution, China has seen the decimation of many of its traditional cultures and beliefs, including spiritual and religious practices which were deeply ingrained in traditional Chinese thought. For example, the basic belief that good is rewarded and evil is punished, an ancient saying, was slandered and considered superstition.

“The Chinese New Year is a time of rebirth. I think it’s a good time to remember everyone has got a responsibility to retain their traditional culture against all the evil forces, like the Chinese Communist Party that want to suppress traditional culture and traditional values,” Mr. Vinnicombe said.

Mr. Vinnicombe believes that traditional culture must be preserved.

“It occurred to me how important it is for all countries to honor and retain their traditional culture, and here in Australia we must try to retain our traditional culture too,” he said.

After watching Shen Yun again, Mr. Vinnicombe thinks that Shen Yun is fulfilling a very important task in the modern world—especially in China.

“Shen Yun has got a very important role all over the world promoting the traditional Chinese values that have been suppressed since the communist revolution. Shen Yun is doing a marvelous job,” he said.
