HOUSTON—After seeing Shen Yun Performing Arts at Jones Hall for Performing Arts on the night of Dec. 29, business owner Al Grice praised the New York-based company.

“I’m serious, this is one of the best shows we’ve seen, and we’ve seen quite a few of them,” said Mr. Grice.

Shen Yun traverses the globe reviving the nearly lost, ancient, and divinely inspired Chinese culture, according to its website. “A performance by Shen Yun is a presentation of traditional Chinese culture as it once was: a study in grace, wisdom, and the virtues distilled from the five millennia of Chinese civilization.”

You couldn’t make it any better.

Mr. Grice and his wife, Barbara, had been waiting to see Shen Yun for months, she said. “We’ve really been looking forward to this,” said Mrs. Grice.

The artists of Shen Yun are known as the top of their profession, and the performances have enthralled people from all around the world. Mr. and Mrs. Grice were among the enthralled. “You couldn’t make it any better,” said Mr. Grice. “We’ve enjoyed it so much.” The couple own A&B Cigarette Service.

Fellow business owner Mohammad Wafai also enjoyed the performance, along with his wife, son in law, and others.

“It’s beautiful, beautiful,” he said. “Actually, I will not mind seeing it one more time. It is absolutely fascinating.”

Mrs. Wafai said the family is fond of Chinese art and music, which made the experience even more enjoyable. She said she loved everything about the performance, including the bright colors.

Engineer Hani Varazi, who is Mr. Wafai’s son in law, said the struggle for freedom depicted in a dance set in contemporary China really impacted him.
