HOUSTON—Jody Bucci, a clinical director at a medical laboratory, saw Shen Yun Performing Arts in Houston the evening of Dec. 30 with businesswoman Doreen Batch. “It was absolutely delightful. I was amazed at the costumes and the athleticism of the dancers, but also the way they interacted with the backdrop was really astounding,” Ms. Bucci said.
Shen Yun uses digital backdrops, animated to provide scenery from China’s different dynasties or regions, and “some scenes even transcend this world, entering a heavenly palace where fairies dance amidst mystical clouds or peering into the solemn majesty of a Buddhist paradise,” the Shen Yun website says.
Ms. Bucci said the emcees were also entertaining, explaining what the audience would see in each performance.
“I think they (the dancers) convey very well with their movements, but it was also helpful to get some storyline behind it,” she said.
Her friend Ms. Batch said the Shen Yun Orchestra impressed her.
“Loved the music. Loved it. It was calming, soothing. It was just perfect for the dancing, I thought,” she said.
Ms. Batch owns a supply company. She said she has been to China three times, and seen performances there, but Shen Yun is different. “I was impressed. It was most enjoyable,” she said. Shen Yun has not yet performed in China.
For those who have not experienced Shen Yun, “I’d say definitely go see it,” Ms. Batch said.
Ms. Bucci was just as fervent. “I would agree wholeheartedly, I would definitely recommend the show,” she said.
