Louis Chevrolet, a Swiss immigrant, came to America in the early 1900s with a dream of building a fine race car—a car not just for the rich, but one that anyone could afford.

By 1911, he had begun building his first car. Louis’ dream became a reality. One hundred years later, a new Chevrolet is sold every 6.6 seconds. That amounts to 4.76 million vehicles in more than 140 countries. The 2013 Malibu LTZ continues that legacy.

The Malibu has a modern, all-new look with athletic styling cues inspired by the Camaro. This clean, aero-optimized design aims to minimize wind resistance while maximizing fuel efficiency.

It is easy to understand why the Malibu turns a few heads. Aerodynamically shaped headlamps provide enhanced range and brightness. The shape flows smoothly around the body sides. Halogen foglamps are standard as well.

The flow of the raised rear deck wraps from the quarter panel across the tail-lamps, adding refinement and seamless air flow around the car.

The heated side-view mirrors have been shaped and tested for optimal aerodynamic performance, while the dual port grille perfectly complements the wide track and swept-back headlamps. There are also hidden passive blocks to reduce wind resistance.

The 18-inch aluminum wheels, Duralife brake rotors, and adjustable turn signal indicators are body color.

Speaking of color, the Malibu comes in 11 exterior colors. Summit White, Crystal Red Tintcoat, Blue Topaz Metallic, and Black Granite Metallic are some examples.

The inside is either premium cloth or leather, available in Jet Black, Jet Black/Titanium, or Cocoa/Light Neutral. On some higher models with Premium exterior colors, a Jet Black/Brownstone leather interior is also available.

Overall, the Malibu offers up to seven interior patterns and colors to choose from, with some limited to certain trims and exterior colors.

Great features include the ambient lighting that sets the emotional tone, and a Rear Vision Camera that establishes Chevrolet’s serious commitment to safety. You are uplifted visually by the power sliding sunroof, allowing you to add the sun, moon, and stars to your celestial repertoire.

All Malibu models come with OnStar and a 6-month service plan which includes a turn-by-turn navigation service. Other than the base LS model, all other models are standard-equipped with a 7” high-resolution touchscreen in the center stack. This easy-to-read screen displays the navigation directions and a good amount of information at a quick glance.

There is also an Eco gauge that tells when you’re driving in the ideal “green zone.” With this kind of technology, you can drive as far as 580 highway miles on a single tank of gas. That is about 24-mpg average, including the 30 mpg on the highway.

Rear defroster, tilt and telescopic steering column, dual central air control, and power-adjustable front bucket seats add even more value to the car. All buttons, knobs, and icons are easy to read, making any adjustments even simpler.

Under the hood is the all-new Ecotec 2.0-L turbocharged engine, with the exhilaration of V-6 power packed into an efficient 4-cylinder. This turbo charged engine’s 259 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque is supported by a 6-speed automatic transmission that is a standard feature. The Driver Shift Control feature allows you to shift gears manually.

Malibu features a premium electric rack-in-pinion steering system that delivers crisp, responsive handling for the feel of excellence when you are behind the wheel.

Stabilitrak and an all-new independent suspension help the car stay the course. The 4-wheel anti-lock disc brake system helps Malibu to stop quickly, and the integrated brake assist system is designed to modulate brake pressure in an emergency braking situation. Ventilated front discs help cool the brakes and maintain stopping power.

The Chevrolet Malibu 2LTZ has a standard price of $30,510. An Electronic and Entertainment Package can add another $1,350.
