Zohra Sehgal Dead: Indian Actress Dies at Age 102 Family Confirms; Tributes Pour in After Death

Former Bollywood actress Zohra Sehgal has died at the age of 102.

Sehgal was known as the Grand Old Lady of Bollywood, appearing in a range of films, TV series, and theater productions during her long career.

Sehgal died of cardiac arrest on June 10, her daughter Kiran Sehgal told the Independent.

Sehgal will be cremated on June 11 at the Lodhi Road crematorium in Delhi.

She was born on April 27, 1912.

Besides Indian films, she also appeared in English language films such as Bend It Like Beckham.

She last appeared in Saawariya in 2007.

Tributes have poured in, including from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Prolific & full of life, Zohra Sehgal made a mark through her acting, which is admired across generations. Saddened on her demise,” he said.

“My experience of working with Zohraji in the two films I did with her, would remain with me until I die. She was a miracle woman. A legend beyond explanation,” added Sanhay Leela Bhansali.

“Zohra Sehgal passes away at 102 yrs...What a journey and what an immensely lovable co-star! Prayer for her blessed soul!,” actor Amitabh Bachchan added via Twitter.

“My condolences on the sad demise of the veteran actress Zohra Sehgal. Her legendary contribution in the field of art & cinema will live on,” Prakash Javadekar tweeted.
