Zimmerman Not Guilty: If He Was Black, ‘He Never Would’ve Been Charged’

George Zimmerman never would have been charged with second-degree murder or manslaughter if he was black, said attorney Mark O’Mara after the jury declared Zimmerman not guilty on July 13.

If Zimmerman was black, “he never would’ve been charged with a crime,” O’Mara said in response to a question by a reporter after the verdict.

People decided they were going to make Zimmerman the scape goat, he added. Zimmerman identifies as Hispanic while many often believe that he is Caucasian.

Zimmerman will now have to hide out for a while because of potential danger, said O’Mara.

“He has to be very cautious and protective of his safety, because there is still a fringe element [on Twitter and elsewhere] who have said that they want revenge,” said O’Mara.
