First-quarter profits of fast-food operator Yum Brands Inc. rose more than 10 percent on surging sales in Asia, specifically in China.

Yum Brands operates KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut fast-food restaurants. KFC is China’s largest foreign fast-food chain, with more than 3,500 locations. Yum Brands’ profits in China rose to $176 million, an increase of 37 percent.

Revenues climbed by 6 percent to $2.35 billion for the quarter. The company’s revenues in the United States declined 1 percent during the same period.
