Internet celebrity Keenan Cahill passed away Thursday at the age of 27 in a Chicago hospital after being taken off life support.
Cahill, a popular Youtube content creator who rose to fame for his viral lip-sync videos with celebrities, passed away following complications from open heart surgery, reported TMZ.
His family has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for his medical and funeral expenses.
“We are devastated to announce that our nephew, Keenan Cahill, passed away on December 29th at the age of 27,” according to a post on the fundraising page. “Twelve days earlier he had open heart surgery and was starting to recover, but complications arose that he couldn’t overcome. We are starting a fundraiser to collect donations to help pay for his medical and funeral costs.’
“He never made a lot of money, but he enjoyed what he was doing and brought smiles to the faces of so many people,” the statement read.
‘Thank you to everyone that made Keenan’s short life memorable. He will be missed by all who knew him.’
At age one, Cahill was diagnosed with Maroteaux–Lamy syndrome, “a progressive condition that causes many tissues and organs to enlarge, become inflamed or scarred, and eventually waste away,” the US National Library of Medicine states.
“Skeletal abnormalities are also common in this condition.”
500 Million Views
He had over 500 million views and more than 725,000 subscribers on his YouTube Channel.Cahill wanted to do more than just lip-syncing and released a single in 2013. He later became a DJ and producer.
Cahill’s last post on Instagram was on Dec. 12, when he shared the date of his open heart surgery to his nearly 20,000 followers.
Tributes have poured in for Cahill on Twitter following the news of his death.
