NEW YORK—A Yonkers’ man has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison, and a further seven years under supervision, for trespassing at the Manhattan Detention Complex, stealing equipment, and groping a male inmate inside the jail.
Matthew Matagrano, 37, pleaded guilty to two charges, Burglary in the Second Degree and Burglary in the Second Degree as a Sexually Motivated Felony on July 25.
According to court documents, Matagrano entered the detention complex at around 9:30 p.m., Feb. 27, 2012, showing security a gold shield and telling them he was an investigator.
He then stole a portable radio from an office, and entered the housing section of the complex, where he groped an inmate and threatened him with physical harm. He then instructed the inmate to enter a cell, where he subjected the inmate to a strip search.
“Using a fake badge to enter a city jail has landed a real criminal in state prison,” said District Attorney Cyrus Vance in a press release.
