YONKERS, N.Y.—A suburban New York city is stepping up law enforcement at a spot where gunfire wounded three people, including a 9-year-old girl eating pizza.
The Journal News says Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano called the shooting “outrageous.” He said Saturday he'll dispatch more police, code enforcement and other authorities to the area where the bullets flew Friday.
The area, near the corner of Palisade Avenue and Elm Street, has been known as a crime hotspot. Spano says now, “it’s going to be known as a hot spot for law enforcement.”
Police Commissioner Charles Gardner says the 9-year-old girl and a man shot in the leg are expected to make full recoveries. A woman who was grazed by a bullet has been treated and released.
Detectives are looking for suspects.
