Adan Canto, who plays new mutant Sunspot in “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” discussed his preparation for the film and his newfound love of comic books.

Canto told Fandango that he delved into the comic books to understand who Sunspot is and what his life is like.

“I just find I work better that way when I understand what’s in his mind, where he’s coming from,” he said.

“I pretty much took most of the things I read and I brought them to the table. He’s a fiery guy. There’s a lot of passion with Sunspot – a lot of experiences that brought him to want to explode all the time, but he’s a positive guy. There was just a lot of material – very helpful!”

Canto added that it was great to work with director Bryan Singer, who has worked on the previous X-Men films.

“It’s inspiring to see somebody that knows exactly what he wants, and he sees it in his mind,” Canto said. “When you’re working with him, you can see the whole game plan in his head, and just to make things work the way he makes them work is great. And to be a part of that as an actor and simply as a person in this industry, it was just a great learning experience to take things to the next level.”
