Victoria Police have seized a record number of machetes for the year to date as the state struggles to combat knife crime.

Victoria Police say they’ve seized 6,876 edged weapons so far this year, including machetes and zombie knives (named for their resemblance to the weapons seen in zombie movies).

Most of the weapons were found in metropolitan Melbourne.
